The name
Kikai, キカイ, is two Japanese words that share one character, 機. Written 機械, kikai means machine. Written 機会, it means chance.
The company is both. Kikai Labs works with machines: robots, physical AI, and the agents and software around them. Kikai Studios makes chances to play: games, pixel art, and the tools behind them.
The tagline says it in one line: 機械と、機会。 Machines, and chances.
The mark
The mark is a K given a quarter turn. Turned clockwise, the stem becomes a bar, the arms become legs, and the letter stands up as a figure with a red core at its heart.
In Japanese a turning point is 転機, tenki, written with the same 機.
The red is vermilion, 朱, shu: the color of the paste a Japanese seal is pressed in. It is Kikai’s one color, and it is always a dot, never a field.
